Organization of Paper

All papers will follow this general outline.

  1. Introduction to problem and thesis statement which includes the solution.  Begin the paper with an interesting hypothetical or true anecdote which exemplifies the severity of the problem.

  2. Description of the problem.  The description must include specific facts, statistics, and anecdotes to illustrate the severity of the problem.  In parenthetical documentation, provide the sources for all information which you include.

  3. Description of the solution of the problem.  Cite specific facts, statistics, and anecdotes which show the possible effectiveness of the proposed solution.   For example, in your reading you may uncover a small town which is currently using this solution.  Cite statistics to show its effectiveness and then explain how the solution could be effective if implemented in a broader setting.  Persuade your reader that your solution is viable.  In parenthetical documentation, provide the sources for all information which you include.

  4. Conclusion which persuades the reader of the importance of curtailing the stated problem and implementing the proposed tone.

Eid ul-Fitr

Eid ul-Fitr or Id-Ul-Fitr (Arabic: عيد الفطر ‘Īdu l-Fiṭr), often abbreviated to Eid, is a Muslim holiday that marks the end of Ramadan, the month of fasting. Eid is an Arabic word meaning "festivity", while Fiṭr means "to break the fast" (and can also mean "nature", from the word "fitrah") and so symbolizes the breaking of the fasting period.

Eid ul-Adha lasts 4 days and is called the Greater Eid (Arabic: العيد الكبير Al-eid Al-kabeer), while Eid ul-Fitr lasts three and is also called Lesser Eid (Arabic: العيد الصغير Al-eid Al-sagheer).

On the day of the celebration, a typical Muslim family awakes very early, does the first normal everyday prayer, and is required to eat a little, symbolizing the end of Ramadan. They then attend special congregational prayers held in mosques, large open areas, stadiums and arenas. The prayer is generally short and is followed by a sermon (khuṭba). Worshippers greet and embrace each other in a spirit of peace and love after the congregational prayer. After the special prayers, festivities and merriment are commonly observed with visits to the homes of relatives and friends to thank God for all blessings.

Eid ul-Fitr is a joyous occasion with important religious significance, celebrating the achievement of enhanced piety. It is a day of forgiveness, moral victory, peace of congregation, fellowship, brotherhood and unity. Muslims celebrate not only the end of all that fasting but also thank God for the help and strength that they believe he gave them through the previous month to help everyone practice self-control. It is a time of giving and sharing, and many Muslims dress in holiday attire.

The History of Valentine's Day

Every February, across the country, candy, flowers, and gifts are exchanged between loved ones, all in the name of St. Valentine. But who is this mysterious saint and why do we celebrate this holiday? The history of Valentine's Day -- and its patron saint -- is shrouded in mystery. But we do know that February has long been a month of romance. St. Valentine's Day, as we know it today, contains vestiges of both Christian and ancient Roman tradition. So, who was Saint Valentine and how did he become associated with this ancient rite? Today, the Catholic Church recognizes at least three different saints named Valentine or Valentinus, all of whom were martyred.

One legend contends that Valentine was a priest who served during the third century in Rome. When Emperor Claudius II decided that single men made better soldiers than those with wives and families, he outlawed marriage for young men -- his crop of potential soldiers. Valentine, realizing the injustice of the decree, defied Claudius and continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret. When Valentine's actions were discovered, Claudius ordered that he be put to death.

Other stories suggest that Valentine may have been killed for attempting to help Christians escape harsh Roman prisons where they were often beaten and tortured.

According to one legend, Valentine actually sent the first 'valentine' greeting himself. While in prison, it is believed that Valentine fell in love with a young girl -- who may have been his jailor's daughter -- who visited him during his confinement. Before his death, it is alleged that he wrote her a letter, which he signed 'From your Valentine,' an expression that is still in use today. Although the truth behind the Valentine legends is murky, the stories certainly emphasize his appeal as a sympathetic, heroic, and, most importantly, romantic figure. It's no surprise that by the Middle Ages, Valentine was one of the most popular saints in England and France.

breakfast

How to Spice Up a Breakfast Egg Sandwich

Because I'm a chef, people always think I want to take a break from cooking when I'm on vacation. But nothing could be further from the truth! In fact, vacation is one of my favorite times to cook, since I have time to explore new markets and cuisines, and the pressure is off, so that I can make the simple things that I love.

For example, I recently got back from two weeks in Ethiopia. When I was there, I cooked breakfast every morning. With each day, the breakfasts got more and more elaborate. Since spices are such a big part of African cooking, I found myself starting the day with heavily spiced egg sandwiches. They were so delicious that I've continued to make them back in New York.

Here's how it's done:

  1. Toast a slice of bread and brush it with olive oil mixed with chilies.
  2. Layer two slices of tomatoes and some nice crisp lettuce on one piece of toast.
  3. Top it with a fried egg, and sprinkle it with your favorite spices (I like berbere, an Ethiopian spice blend) and salt.
  4. Finish the sandwich off with a slice of cheese (I use aged gouda) and avocado.

It's a sandwich worth getting up for each morning, or for any time of day!

happy ur Eid Al-fetr

Happy your Eid, let's pray for all muslims,

"this is the song "Eid" by Sami Yusuf"

Children are wearing new clothes
Bright colours fill the streets
Their faces full of laughter
Their pockets full of sweets
Let us rejoice indeed
For this is the day of Eid

Mosques are full of worshippers
in rows straight and neat
Their Lord they remember, His name they repeat
Their hands are raised to the sky
They supplicate and plead
On this blessed day
Forgive us they entreat
Let us rejoice indeed
For this is the day of Eid

People are giving charity
And helping those in need
In giving they’re competing
Today there is no greed
Let us rejoice indeed
For this is the day of Eid

Psychology of colors

Psychology of colors

Why are people more relaxed in green rooms? Why do weightlifters do their best in blue gyms?

Colors often have different meanings in various cultures. And even in Western societies, the meanings of various colors have changed over the years. But today in the U.S., researchers have generally found the following to be accurate.

Blue

The color of the sky and the ocean, blue is one of the most popular colors. It causes the opposite reaction as red. Peaceful, tranquil blue causes the body to produce calming chemicals, so it is often used in bedrooms. Blue can also be cold and depressing. Fashion consultants recommend wearing blue to job interviews because it symbolizes loyalty. People are more productive in blue rooms. Studies show weightlifters are able to handle heavier weights in blue gyms.

Music and Islam

Music is not Forbidden in Islam

Music is one of the purest and most beautiful creation of God Almighty who set the tone and rhythm of every sound in the universe. Music or singing like all the creations of God, that now constitute an important part of our daily life, can be lawfully used or maliciously abused. Both music and singing are created pure, and beautiful like our fresh air and fresh water and they can be corrupted or polluted by evil-doers of every nationality, color or gender. The corruption of some music shows or songs does not make all the music or songs haram (prohibited) just like the pollution of  some water or fresh air by some people will not deem all the water and air haram (prohibited),The sincere Muslim who is following the Quran will not find in the Quran ANY PROHIBITION whatsoever OF MUSIC OR SINGING. God is very specific and His commands are very clear regarding any prohibition given in the Quran. God, the Most Merciful, NEVER prohibited music or singing in the Quran. Any prohibition of music or singing that is talked about among some Muslims has no basis in the Quran

TRIZ - What Is TRIZ ?  : Theory of Inventive Problem Solving

TRIZ is a problem solving method based on logic and data, not intuition, which accelerates the project team's ability to solve these problems creatively. TRIZ also provides repeatability, predictability, and reliability due to its structure and algorithmic approach. "TRIZ" is the (Russian) acronym for the "Theory of Inventive Problem Solving." G.S. Altshuller and his colleagues in the former U.S.S.R. developed the method between 1946 and 1985. TRIZ is an international science of creativity that relies on the study of the patterns of problems and solutions, not on the spontaneous and intuitive creativity of individuals or groups. More than three million patents have been analyzed to discover the patterns that predict breakthrough solutions to problems.

TRIZ

TRIZ teachers and consultants are frequently asked about how TRIZ is used in companies. Most often people are interested in problems of how to apply TRIZ in conditions of a real manufacturing setting ? the effects of this introduction, the tutoring of staff and concrete examples of its application. This chapter is dedicated to consideration of these questions. This program has as its objective the creation of a viable TRIZ organization within a company. As a rule, the representatives of the companies who inquire about TRIZ and its application already have certain information on this methodology and may even have experience with its use. Therefore, our talk starts with discussing how to obtain additional knowledge and education on TRIZ.
